Downtown Huntsville, Inc. Offering Scholarships for CO.STARTERS Business Program at Lowe Mill

Entrepreneurs interested in opening a new business in downtown Huntsville may be eligible to receive financial support from a local nonprofit organization to attend Rocket Hatch’s CO.STARTERS program.

Rocket Hatch, an open community of entrepreneurs, artists and creators in north Alabama, announced Monday it is partnering with Downtown Huntsville, Inc. to make CO.STARTERS more affordable for local startups.

DHI, which focuses in part on commercial and business development in the city center, says it will provide scholarships to select CO.STARTERS graduates who have plans to launch their companies in downtown Huntsville.

“We’ll typically offer scholarships around the 25-percent range unless there is a very unique situation,” said DHI CEO Chad Emerson. “The concept is that the scholarship can help ‘fill the gap’ in certain instances.”

CO.STARTERS is a $750 program at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment with an early bird discount of $100. Rocket Hatch co-founder Antonio Montoya said Lowe Mill tenants receive an additional $100 discount.

The nine-week program, which uses lean business modeling methods to support smaller-scale startups, provides insights, relationships and tools to help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into action. Based in Chattanooga, CO.STARTERS was founded by The Company Lab and has been adopted by organizations in more than 20 U.S. locations.

“Rocket Hatch sees a thriving downtown as a key element in creating a sustainable startup community,” Montoya said in a statement. “Successful local businesses downtown not only bring economic activity but enrich our local culture and improve our city as an attractive place for young entrepreneurs.”

The CO.STARTERS cohort for February is sold out, but attendees can pre-register for the next cycle at costarters.rockethatch.org.
