Workforce Initiatives

The Department of Commerce administers a variety of programs and grants to help enhance Alabama’s workforce and provide assistance to workers. These initiatives are set in place to improve the quality of job training and marketability of Alabama’s workforce for the economic growth of the state.

Resources like Rapid Response Team assist employers and employees affected by plant layoffs or facility closings by providing information such as unemployment compensation, pension benefits, job training, employment services, health insurance, and credit counseling. Alabama Career Centers represent Alabama’s effort to provide one-stop-shops for job development, occupational and educational raining. Finally, training programs like Alabama’s wide range of youth and adult programs assist workers with significant barriers to employment to develop the skills they need to contribute to Alabama’s workforce.
