Workforce Development Division

The Department of Commerce’s Workforce Development Division is dedicated to assisting the growth of Alabama businesses and the workers that sustain their operations. By directing individuals toward job skills improvement programs, education, and training, the Workforce Development Division equips workers with the tools and talents that employers demand.

The Department of Commerce Workforce Development Division (WDD) is charged with being the lead agency in the development of a new Alabama Workforce System to include Commerce workforce programs, K-12 Education and the Community College System as recommended by the Alabama Workforce Council (AWC) and directed by the Governor.  The Workforce Development Division is tasked with alignment of the programs within its responsibility including the Federal WIOA program, Regional Workforce Councils and the AIDT.  In addition Commerce is the “administrative support” for the AWC.
