MONTGOMERY, Alabama — The Alabama poultry industry is a major contributor to the state’s economy, according to an article on the Farm Flavor web site that examines its scope.
The poultry industry, the report says, boosts the Alabama economy by $10 billion annually. It’s also the leading revenue segment in the state’s agriculture industry, with one third of the state’s counties involved in the poultry business.
Farm Flavor says Alabama ranks third among U.S. states in broiler production and 14th in egg production.
“The poultry industry in Alabama is strong and a big part of the state’s economy, particularly in the rural areas of the state,” Johnny Adams, executive director of the Alabama Poultry & Egg Association, told the publication.
The Alabama poultry industry sustained a blow in the April 27, 2011, tornado outbreak, but has been rebounding from the damage, according to a report by The Birmingham News.
