In June 2013, the European Union and the United States announced their intention to negotiate the Trans-Atlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP), an ambitious free-trade deal that, if concluded, could dramatically affect European and American economies. Vast in scope, the TTIP aims for regulatory harmonization and compatibility across a range of sectors as well as the elimination of tariffs and non-tariff barriers to trans-Atlantic trade. A TTIP agreement could also harmonize rules and set standards that could influence the global economic system.
But what will a final agreement really include and how will a TTIP agreement affect Alabama businesses and residents? Join the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA) as they host the TTIP Town Hall, a program aimed at informing and facilitating public debate on the TTIP. A panel of international trade experts from the business, government and think-tank communities will share their extensive analyses on the TTIP and outline the benefits and challenges of a free-trade deal and its potential impact on businesses in Birmingham and across Alabama. The town hall gathering will also provide an opportunity for citizens to share their interests and concerns about the TTIP agreement, and ensure that their voices are heard in Washington and Brussels.
