“Entrepreneurship is my passion; it gives the business world character,” said Heather Boozer, Small Business Counselor, at The University of Alabama in Huntsville’s (UAH) Small Business Development Center (SBDC). “Without entrepreneurs, the business world would lack innovation, growth, and culture. I encourage entrepreneurship because a ceiling is non-existent and that provides endless possibilities.” Boozer, the newest member of the SBDC Huntsville team, was hired last January as the Small Business Counselor. Her duties include assisting small businesses with start up, business plan development, licensing, marketing and social media, management assistance, business health analysis, accounting and finance analysis, human resources, and focusing on access to capital. “My career background is in lending, so my main objective is to aid business owners in funding.”
For the last nine years, Boozer has worked for many different lending institutions that provide commercial and consumer lending products, where she proved to be very knowledgeable in loan processing, and management. Additionally, Boozer is also a successful small business owner and her company has been awarded multiple business awards, with articles published in numerous trade publications.
“I own an event planning company, that I started six years ago as a wedding and private event company,” Boozer said. “It is now being transitioned into a corporate conferences business.” While Boozer remains the company’s owner, she has delegated executive responsibility to one of her employees. “My career focus is counseling small businesses at the SBDC for success,” she noted.
Boozer earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration (dual concentration in Finance and Human Resource Management) from Auburn University. She is completing an Executive Masters Degree in Business Administration from The University of North Alabama.
“My family is my absolute world; I have a six-year-old daughter, Lily, and a three-year-old son, Easton.” Boozer enjoys spending quality time with her children. “I may be, quite frankly, one of the busiest people on the planet juggling; a family, a business, a full-time job and finishing my MBA this semester! Needless to say, I don’t sleep much.”
