Innovators and Entrepreneurs: Montgomery Company Uses Online Sales to Become One of Top Private Businesses

A hard won software breakthrough has put a local company among the nation’s elite e-commerce businesses.

Montgomery’s Online Commerce Group (OCG) uses cutting-edge software to process thousands of online orders for custom-made items.

Leaders at the fledgling enterprise brainstormed for six months in 2005 to develop the software successor to the manual system the company first used when it opened in 2004.

The secret to OCG’s success, the software was similar to cracking a code. Once brought to life, it has grown OCG from a four-employee startup to about 50 workers, said president Scott McGlon. Now the company processes thousands of online orders yearly and mass produces custom-made cushions, pillows, drapes and other products.
