Montgomery Ranks as One of the Best Places for Black-Owned Businesses

African-American businesses continue to prosper and grow, landing one Alabama metro on a list of the best places for black-owned businesses.

Montgomery found itself ranked 2nd on the list, compiled by NerdWallet.com. The state capitol finished behind Columbus, GA., who took the top spot, but edged out the Atlanta metro.

The report said the city’s African-American population is growing faster than any other city on the list, with nearly a third of the businesses in the Montgomery metro owned by African-American entrepreneurs.

Additionally, the report cited Montgomery’s efforts in forming its first Black Chamber of Commerce, however other business resources, such as Alabama State Black Chamber of Commerce and the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Advisory Task Force, were also mentioned in the report.

4. Memphis, TN.

5. Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, VA.

9. Savannah, GA.

10. Baltimore, MD.
