SPARK, a new series of events at BizTech, will target local entrepreneurs this month in Huntsville.

Each week in August, participants will have an opportunity to present three-minute pitches in specific industry areas, such as energy, cyber, medical and geospatial. Lance Gilbreath, director of community engagement at BizTech, said judges, mentors and venture capitalists will be present during each SPARK event.

“Each week, there will be two chances for you to pitch your business idea before experts in each of the target areas,” he said. “Each event a winner will be declared by the panel of judges.”

There will be multiple prizes, including $200 cash, a $25 training gift certificate for the Women’s Business Center of North Alabama, a $600-value six-month membership with BizTech, free advice and more.

Gilbreath said the overall winner will also win a one-year membership to BizTech valued at $1,500 and a FastTrac training course from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

SPARK’s first energy pitch session begins at 5:30 tonight at 515 Sparkman Drive in Huntsville. Other events will be held as follows:

  • Thursday 5:30 p.m. — Cyber
