Alabama saw a marginal growth in jobs this July, with many of them in small businesses, according to a study by Intuit.

Small businesses in Alabama saw a 0.7 percent bump in employment in July across a data sample of 237,000 businesses, according to Intuit’s Small Business Indexes, a report that follows revenue and employment trends each month with a focus on businesses with fewer than 20 employees.

In July, hourly small business employees also saw a decrease in monthly compensation by 0.2 percent, with average monthly pay falling to $2,708. Hours worked by employees also dropped 0.3 percent from last month to 107.5 hours, according to the survey.

Small business revenue, when calculated per-business, saw a 0.01 decrease in revenue, with the largest decrease (0.18 percent) in revenue going to health care and social assistance companies. The companies with the largest growth were food service, accommodation and drinking places, with an increase of 0.2 percent.

The study calculates values for the period from June 24 to July 23.
