MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Angela Smith, a Senior Project Manager with the Alabama Department of Commerce, has been honored as the Young Professional of the Year by the Economic Development Association of Alabama (EDAA). The award was presented this week during EDAA’s Summer Conference held in Point Clear.
Smith, who joined Commerce in 2015, served as the department’s Incentives Manager for nine years before transitioning into her current project management role in March 2024. Over the course of her career, she has played a key role in advancing job-creating projects and supporting the state’s strategic economic development efforts.
“Angela has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to economic growth in Alabama, and this well-deserved recognition reflects both her professionalism and her passion for serving our communities,” said Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce.
“She represents the best of Alabama’s next generation of economic developers, and we’re proud to have her on the Commerce team,” she added.
The EDAA Young Professional of the Year Award recognizes a rising leader in Alabama’s economic development community who exemplifies excellence, innovation, and dedication early in their career. The honor is awarded to an individual who has made a meaningful impact through leadership, community engagement and a strong commitment to the values of the EDAA.
“Angela’s dedication to EDAA’s mission and her passion for economic development are evident in everything she does,” said Vince Perez, Director of Economic Development for Southeast Gas and EDAA Board Liaison for the Young Professional Committee.
