Some of the biggest names in the world call Alabama home, including NASA, Boeing, Airbus, and Lockheed Martin, and a number of auto manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz and Toyota. There are also first-class companies involved in the production of metals and advanced materials.
This all-star roster positions Alabama as a place for the technologies of tomorrow. From battery production to sustainable aviation fuel, there is so much work being done to advance air mobility. Experienced researchers at Alabama universities are also nvestigating game-changing advances in mobility technologies.

Making rocket science happen.
The Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville is a key player in NASA’s ambitious Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and pave the way for future missions to Mars. The development of the Space Launch System (SLS) at Marshall marks a monumental step towards these goals. With 106 Alabama firms contributing to the project, it reaffirms the state as a leader in space innovation.
North Alabama is also home to the United Launch Alliance (ULA) and America’s largest rocket factory, where the company assembles its next-generation Vulcan Centaur rockets.

Taking off as an aircraft production hub.
Alabama has become a central hub for Airbus in North America, and recent expansions of the company’s only U.S. aircraft factory in Mobile underscore its importance to the company’s global production network.
The addition of a new assembly line for A320 Family passenger jets, following a project to build a line for A220 aircraft, is boosting production capacity and creating 1,000 jobs at the Mobile facility.
Mobile is also home to an Airbus engineering center.

Ready for the EV evolution.
Alabama’s auto industry is making major moves to capitalize on the evolution towards electric vehicles—and it’s getting plenty of support to accelerate new production strategies.
Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai have already begun building EVs at their Alabama assembly plants, and Mercedes has opened a sprawling battery factory in the state. Meanwhile, a growing EV-focused supply chain is taking shape across Alabama.
Altogether, more than $2 billion in new EV-related investments in Alabama have been announced, setting the stage for the creation of 2,500 jobs in the state’s auto sector.


Building a support system for the next chapter.
The industry is finding it has a strong support system in Alabama as it moves toward an EV future.
AIDT, Alabama’s primary workforce development agency, is constructing a $30 million workforce training center in Decatur dedicated to electric vehicles and emerging technologies. The 40,000-square-foot facility is located on the campus of the Alabama Robotics Technology Park, a $73 million complex where AIDT helps companies train workers on advanced R&D and manufacturing technologies.
Another resource is the Alabama Mobility and Power (AMP) Center in Tuscaloosa, which is supporting Alabama’s automotive industry through research and innovation in the EV space.
