BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Brasfield & Gorrie is again expanding its Birmingham headquarters, this time breaking ground on a new four-story, 88,000-square-foot building in Birmingham’s Lakeview District.
The general contractor’s new $65 million investment will create training and office space, accommodating at least 80 new full-time positions with an average salary of $82,000.
“Brasfield & Gorrie’s decision to continue investing in Birmingham is a strong testament to the confidence companies have in the region and in the talented workforce there,” said Alabama Secretary of Commerce Ellen McNair. “This expansion will create high-quality jobs, strengthen one of Alabama’s homegrown companies and help attract and develop the next generation of talent in our state. We’re proud to see Alabama companies like Brasfield & Gorrie growing their roots deeper in our communities.”

Founded in 1964, Brasfield & Gorrie has grown from a local contractor to a national construction company with 13 offices in eight states. It was recently recognized as the Birmingham Business Journal’s No. 1 Best Place to Work among extra-large companies.
It has 1,800 employees statewide and more than 5,000 companywide in offices throughout the Southeast and Texas.
“Birmingham has been home to this company for over 60 years, and that’s not something we take lightly,” said Brasfield & Gorrie CEO Rob Blalock. “We’re investing in this city’s future by expanding our workforce, growing our footprint and putting our resources where our roots are. We want Brasfield & Gorrie to be the place where talented people come to build something real, and we’re giving them the space, the tools and the environment to do it.”
Brasfield & Gorrie has added more than 600 jobs in Alabama over the last five years.
Last year, it added a three-story, 28,500-square-foot expansion to its Birmingham headquarters.
“Economic development is strongest when businesses and communities grow together,” said Birmingham Business Alliance President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Ammons. “Brasfield & Gorrie’s expansion is a great example of that partnership, bringing together a longtime Birmingham employer and public-sector partners to create jobs, expand investment and strengthen our community. We’re proud to celebrate this next chapter for a company that has been part of Birmingham’s story for more than 60 years.”
This newest building is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028. The company partnered with the city of Birmingham, Jefferson County and the state of Alabama on the project.
“Birmingham is a city on the move, and projects like this are proof of that momentum,” said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin. “When one of the country’s top construction companies chooses to grow and build here, in the city where it laid its foundation, that creates real opportunity. This expansion will bring good jobs that set our people and our city up for lasting success. That’s our focus and we’re glad Brasfield & Gorrie is growing with us.”
